These reports resulted from a number of news media sources as well as independent studies from around the country all of which cannot be denied. As a result we felt it necessary to recap them in this article as the condition of our very precious water supplies are being threatened from coast to coast. The greatest problem with these numerous reports is that with so many water resources being impacted by these contaminants we seriously have to question just how much safe water is left. Unfortunately, there is a rather large disconnect between that which is deemed safe by our federal authorities and what your doctor would tell you was safe.
February 2010 – AP news report WILMINGTON, N.C. – An environmental contractor dramatically underreported the level of a cancer-causing chemical found in tap water at Camp Lejeune, then omitted it altogether as the Marine base prepared for a federal health review, an Associated Press review has found.
May 2010 – The CDC reported that more than 2 million Californians have been exposed to dangerously high levels of nitrates from ground water sources throughout the state.
March 2009 to date – Fish caught near wastewater treatment plants serving five major U.S. cities had residues of pharmaceuticals in them, including toxic water exposure on base medicines used to treat high cholesterol, allergies, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder and depression, researchers reported Wednesday. Findings from this first nationwide study of human drugs in fish tissue have prompted the Environmental Protection Agency to significantly expand similar ongoing research to more than 150 different locations.
With water contamination reports that have been coming out in the news media this past year we have noticed that this is a problem that is seemingly on the rise more so in 2010 than were reported in 2009.
Most recently, on December 26, 2010 Environmental Working Group (EWG) has reported that tap water in 31 out of 35 American cities have higher than normal concentrates of hexavalent chromium (Chromium-6). What’s that you might be saying… Chromium 6 is a compound that regulates glucose metabolism and when inhaled or ingested over long periods of time, increases the risk of cancer to the lungs, kidneys and intestines.
If this sounds familiar to you then you might remember the true story as was depicted by the movie, “Erin Brochovich” in which she fought long and hard at her own personal risk to bring the polluters of this extremely dangerous chemical to justice that quite literally destroyed the lives and an entire town.
